Kenya introduces mandatory health form for travellers from Ebola-affected countries

Travellers arriving in Kenya from, or transiting through, five African countries are now required to complete a mandatory Traveller Health Surveillance Form before departure as authorities strengthen health screening measures in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak.

The requirement applies to passengers travelling from or transiting through the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania.

QR code required on arrival

Under the new measures, travellers must complete the online health declaration form and obtain a QR code before travel.

The QR code must be presented to Port Health officials on arrival in Kenya for verification.

Tourism operators and travel advisors are being urged to ensure clients are aware of the requirement before departure to avoid delays during the arrival process.

Measures linked to Ebola outbreak

The enhanced screening procedures have been introduced as part of Kenya’s response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in parts of the region.

Authorities have advised that the list of affected countries may be revised in line with evolving public health advice and government directives.

The move follows a series of precautionary measures introduced by several African countries aimed at strengthening border health surveillance and reducing the risk of cross-border disease transmission.

Travel trade urged to brief clients

For the travel trade, the requirement adds another pre-departure step for clients travelling to Kenya via regional hubs.

Operators are encouraging advisors to incorporate the health declaration process into standard travel documentation and pre-travel briefings to ensure compliance.

Travellers can complete the mandatory form online before departure and should carry their QR code for presentation on arrival.
